Randall Whitney King, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully in his sleep on a beautiful spring day on May 12, 2026, at his home in Centerville, Ohio. He was surrounded by the quiet comfort and warmth that marked so much of his life. His gentle spirit, kindness, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Randy was born on October 11, 1943, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He moved to Dayton, Ohio, with his parents, where he graduated from Fairview High School in 1962. He went on to earn his bachelor's degree in Business from Bowling Green State University in 1966. Following college, he served in the National Guard, exemplifying his commitment to community and country. He was also an Eagle Scout, a testament to his lifelong dedication to service and leadership.
He worked as a successful sales and marketing professional for more than 40 years, including many years with Top Value Enterprises and Carlson Marketing Group. His career allowed him to travel extensively throughout the world, where he experienced many different cultures, formed lasting relationships, and developed a deep appreciation for the people and places he encountered along the way.
Retirement came at the perfect time, allowing Randy to spend treasured years helping care for his grandchildren. He embraced every moment, from changing diapers to countless hours of rocking, comforting, and creating lasting memories with them. He brought the same love and devotion to raising his daughters, often singing “Put Your Head on My Shoulder” to comfort them and make them smile—a memory his family will always cherish.
Randy was known for his quick wit, warm sense of humor, and positive outlook on life, bringing laughter and encouragement to those around him wherever he went. Beyond family, Randy’s passions were many. He was an avid sports fan, cheering for the Cincinnati Reds, Bengals, and UD Flyers with spirited enthusiasm. He delighted in attending his grandchildren's sporting events and concerts, always eager to support their interests. He also enjoyed playing golf, poker, and chess with his close friends.
Randy was active in his community and served as President of the Centerville Evening Optimist. He volunteered his time in ways that reflected his kindness and positive outlook.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Bette King. He is survived by his devoted wife Joan; loving daughters Carrie (Neil Stewart), Leslie King, and Laura (Jim St. Pierre); and his son Mark (Cindy Pitzele). His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Colin, Owen, Eli, Isla, Ryan, and Maya, and other family members, including sisters Janan and Sally, and nieces and nephews Mindy (Chris), Nick, Brent (Kinsey), and Tami (Aaron), along with many extended family members who will hold his memory dear.
