It is with heavy hearts and profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Rand E Cooley, a beloved son of Dayton and a cherished member of our community. Born on April 9, 1948, in the heart of Dayton, Rand’s journey came to a peaceful close on March 18, 2026, at Hospice of Dayton, surrounded by the gentle comforts of love and care.
Rand was a man of remarkable wit and kindness, qualities that touched every life he encountered. His spirit, warm and vibrant, radiated especially in his devotion to his family and his beloved dogs, who held a special place in his heart. He was a steadfast presence, whose humor and compassion uplifted those around him even in the most challenging times.
A graduate of Fairmont West High School, Rand carried the lessons of his youth forward into a life marked by honor and service. He answered the call of duty with loyalty and courage, serving honorably and faithfully in the Marine Corps. This chapter of his life reflected the deep sense of responsibility and commitment that defined his character throughout his years.
Rand’s love story that spanned a quarter century with Ann Hadder, the love of his life for 25 years, was a testament to enduring partnership and mutual devotion. Alongside Ann, Rand shared his heart with the Hadder family, including Scott (Jenny) Hadder, Melissa Hadder, his treasured grandchildren: Keegan, Grace, and Jordan Hadder, who brought joy and pride to his later years.
A private family service will be held at Polk Grove Cemetery.
As we mourn the loss of Rand E. Cooley, we remember a man whose life was a gift to all who knew him. His kindness, his wit, and his unwavering love for family remain etched in our hearts forever. May his memory be a blessing and a source of comfort to all who grieve his passing.
In leiu of flowers, donations may be made in Rand's memory to Ohio's Hospice of Dayton.
