Poccosa McKinney, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on December 5, 2025, at the age of 57. Born on September 5, 1968, Poccosa was known for his kind and generous spirit, as well as his infectious smile that could light up any room. A lifelong resident of the community, he attended Belmont High School, where he began to lay the foundation for a life dedicated to both family and service.
Poccosa was an honorable veteran who proudly served in the United States Army. After his military service, he embarked on a fulfilling career with Johnson Control and he also he managed apartments alongside his cherished wife, Gwyn Moody-McKinney. Together, they took on numerous remodeling projects that not only enhanced their business but also showcased Poccosa's remarkable work ethic and keen attention to detail.
Known affectionately as "Uncle Coco" to many, Poccosa treasured his family time, creating lasting memories with his loved ones. His passion for video games and delight in spending time with his grandchildren—Aniya, Markel, Faith, Courtney II, Jamarion, and Za'Mir—brought him immense joy and fulfillment. To him, being a family man was his proudest accomplishment, demonstrating a devotion to nurturing and supporting those around him.
Poccosa is survived by his beloved wife, Gwyn Moody-McKinney; their three children, Marquetta McKinney, Maria (Courtney Sr.) Mitchell, and Marcia McKinney; six grandchildren; four brothers, Destry McKinney, William (Monique) McKinney II, Greg (Jacqueline) Landers and Carlos McElrath; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, including Takesha Perry, Destry "Quinn" (Melissa) Perry, Issac Clay, De'Andre McKinney, Daina McKinney, Tameka Perry, Kajeza Hawkins, Kyell McKinney, Komarye McKinney, Sasha Landers, Devonne Landers, Jasmine McKinney, Jarious Townsend, and Johntis Townsend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William McKinney I and Sarah Leach, and his niece, Danielle Thomas. The memories of Poccosa McKinney, with his great sense of humor and ability to never meet a stranger, will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. His legacy as a loving family man and honorable individual will be cherished and remembered. A true legend, HE WAS THE MAN!
