Phillip R. Marker, a loving husband, devoted family member, and veteran, passed away peacefully at his home in Kettering, Ohio, on January 8, 2026, at the age of 73. Born on December 26, 1952, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Phillip was known for his warm spirit and deep commitment to his loved ones and faith.
A graduate of Kettering Fairmont East High School, Phillip continued his education at Urbana College, where he earned his Bachelor's Degree. His dedication to service extended beyond his education as he proudly served in the United States Army and the Army National Guard, achieving the rank of Sergeant from 1973 to 1979, reflecting his deep sense of duty and community. Phillip was also a lifetime member of the American Legion in Kettering.
Phillip is remembered as a caring and faithful Christian, deeply engaged at The Gathering Place Church, where he actively participated in Bible study. His faith was a cornerstone of his character, and he cherished the connections he made through his church community.
Beyond his devotion to his family and faith, Phillip had a multitude of interests that brought joy not only to himself but to those around him. An avid gardener and talented woodworker, he expressed his creativity and passion through his hands. Additionally, Phillip was renowned for his skills as a tailor; he could always be counted on to lend a helping hand whenever anyone needed something stitched.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 18 years, Paulette Marker; step-daughter, Denise (Jeremy) Lamb; brother, Daniel (Susan) Marker; sisters, Carol Furtick and Elizabeth Pittinger; and eight grandchildren who will cherish their memories with him. Phillip is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, each of whom held him dear.
He is preceded in death by his parents, M. Paul and Inez Marker; his brothers, Mark Marker, P. Edward Marker, and Stephen Bartron. Phillip's legacy of kindness, faith, and dedication to his family will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 12, 2026, from 11 am to 1 pm at Newcomer Centerville Chapel (820 Miamisburg-Centerville Rd., Dayton, OH 45459) Funeral service will begin at 1 pm. Phillip will be laid to rest at Mt. Zion Park Cemetery in Beavercreek, OH. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor Phillip's life and the indelible mark he left on all who were fortunate enough to know him.
