Phillip Edward Gard, a devoted family man, passed away peacefully at home in Xenia, Ohio, on May 16, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on November 26, 1936, at home in Dayton, Ohio. Phillip was a lifelong resident of the area who worked for over 40 years at Thoma Body Shop in Dayton, Ohio.
Along with his beloved wife, Terry, he raised three beautiful daughters—Chrissy (Alan) Pack, Cheryl (Donny) Grimm, and Carol (Dave) Wise—and took immense joy in his three grandsons, Michael Pack, Zach (Chelsea) Gard, Troy Gard and great-grandson, Luke. Phillip was a loving grandfather whose eyes would light up at the sight of his grandsons, especially his great-grandson. Phillip cherished each moment spent attending their sporting activities, reinforcing the deep bonds he held with his family.
Phillip was a proud alumnus of Wilbur Wright High School. A simple man, he was often described as the "Mayor" of his neighborhood, always monitoring the local activities, including loading up the girls in the car to follow the fire trucks and sirens when they would go on a run (no matter what time of day or night). His love for fixing things was complemented by a rich array of hobbies that included working on cars, fishing, and collecting hats. Phillip enjoyed attending the NASCAR races at Kentucky Speedway with his daughters and friends from the North Dayton Angler's Club. His favorite drive was Dale Earnhardt SR. (RIP). He was also a competitive player of Euchre, playing with his friends at Engel's Automotive after work, determined to win every time.
Phillip was actively involved in his community. He was an active member for the North Dayton Angler's and Gun Club, serving on the board for many years. He was also one of the founders and the first president of The North Dayton Anglers' Stag, and actively involved for two decades.
He is survived by his daughters, grandsons, great-grandson, and siblings Tom Gard, Beverly Lipps, and Debbie McGrew. He rejoins his late wife of 49 years, Terry Gard (Smith), his parents, Warren and Margaret Gard, along with his twin sister, Phyllis King, brother, Larry Gard and close friend Dave Engel.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Phillip's remarkable life during a Memorial Gathering on Wednesday May 21, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home in Beavercreek, Ohio. His legacy of love and generosity to others will not be forgotten.
In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation in Phillip's memory to Hospice of Dayton.
