Peggy Ann Schmitz, age 72, of Beavercreek, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, October 31, after her battle with Parkinson’s disease.
She was born on June 19, 1952, to Robert and Cecelia Brownell in Burwell, Nebraska.
Peggy graduated from Burwell High School and earned her accounting certificate from Park School of Business in Denver, Colorado, in 1973. She spent the next 39 years working in accounting and finance with a few career changes along the way. She retired from JPMorgan Chase in 2012 after 13 years of service.
Peggy spent more than half her life living in her beloved San Diego, California, where she always considered her home. She was very career-driven and independent. She was blessed to have many lifelong friends, gained through coworkers with whom she became close throughout her career opportunities to the many lovely neighbors she met and befriended along the way. Peggy enjoyed traveling and was able to spend time exploring amazing places such as Hawaii, Caribbean Islands, Egypt, the British Virgin Islands, and Canada to name a few. She spent most of her retirement with her family, spending time with her children and grandchildren, having lunches with her friends and even picking up an interest in playing pickleball. She also enjoyed her trips back to Burwell to visit with extended family and childhood friends – she always loved an opportunity to reminisce about the “good ol’ days.” You could always find Peggy having her 5 p.m. Johnny Walker cocktail, no matter where she was, with a bright, beaming smile that will be missed by many. Peggy touched many lives with her easygoing, kind-hearted, soft-spoken, witty, funny and patient personality.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Bill; her sister, Nancy; and her son, Adam.
She is survived by her daughter and caretaker Melissa and partner Mike Bondurant and five grandchildren who will deeply miss their loving grandma: Chase, Savannah, Ridlee, Wyatt, and Oliver. She is also survived by her brothers Larry (Judy) and Denny (Kathy), along with her two nephews and three nieces, as well as many other loving family members and close friends.
There will be two celebrations of life for Peggy Schmitz. The first, a combined celebration to honor both Peggy and her ex-husband and close friend Bobby Schmitz (also recently deceased), will be held in San Deigo, CA, on Thursday, February 6, at 12 p.m. at The Point, located at 1010 Santa Clara Place, San Diego, CA 92109. The second will be held in Burwell, NE in April, date and time TBD.
