SMITH, Peggy, age 83, of Dayton, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2026. Peggy was born on October 31, 1942, in Tennessee to Blaine and Ethelene Daugherty. She later married Gene Smith in 1980.
Peggy was known for her fiery spirit, wonderful smile, and a love for her family that was unmatched. She especially enjoyed playing Bingo and was known for her famous peanut butter fudge.
She is survived by her husband, Gene Smith; her daughter, Darlene Long; three grandchildren, Christopher (Lela) Cornelius, Nicole (Blake) Fiore, and Michelle (John) Park; seven great-grandchildren; her brother, Jack Daugherty; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ethelene and Blaine Daugherty; sisters, Carole Hayes, Sue Secrist, and Brenda Daugherty; and brothers, Tommy Daugherty, Bill Daugherty, and Randall Daugherty.
A visitation will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Chapel, in Dayton on Monday, March 16, 2026 from 12:30pm to 1:30pm. A funeral service will begin at the Funeral Home at 1:30pm with burial to follow at Dayton Memorial Park.
Guests are invited to wear blue in honor of her favorite color.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton.
Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
