It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Peggee Beckham, beloved wife, mother grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She passed away on April 27, 2026, at the age of 69, leaving the world - and especially those who loved her - a little less purple. Peg lived life on her own terms, with a free spirit and a touch of a hippie soul.
She had a soft spot for animals, always finding comfort and joy in their presence. Whether caring for her own fur babies or enjoying the company of others' furry companions, she had a gentleness that made every creature feel safe and loved. Peg was also responsible for instilling a love of birdwatching into those close to her.
Peg was enchanted by all things Celtic, drawn to the rich culture, music, and traditions. Some of her fondest memories were the trips she made to Ireland and Scotland, or, a bit closer to home, simply enjoying a properly poured pint of Guinness with good company.
She loved attending festivals. In her later years, as her mobility declined, she didn't let that slow her down. Peg could be found cruising through festival grounds on her scooter, as she remained on the lookout for good live music, great food, and unique treasures.
An OG foodie and talented cook, Peg expressed her love through food, putting care and creativity into everything she made. For many years, patrons at Dayton's popular Dublin Pub could enjoy a slice of Peggee's Chocolate Guinness cake. But Peg's cake wasn't a one-hit wonder; she also had a dish featured on the menu at the Shiloh Springs House restaurant during its heyday.
Peggee's creativity found expression in many forms. Whether she was enjoying a live performance by her favorite Celtic bands or listening to the singer-songwriters of years past, she had an abiding love of music. She also enjoyed crocheting, spending hours creating delicate, handcrafted pieces.
She was generous to a fault and was the type of person to give you the shirt off her back. Additionally, Peg had a remarkable knack for gift-giving, somehow always finding the most useful, thoughtful, and quirky things. She had a keen sense of finding items you never knew you needed, but once you had them, you couldn't imagine living without them.
Most of all, Peggee will be remembered for her unique spirit and her ability to make others feel loved and seen. Her presence will be deeply missed. She is survived by her devoted husband, Mark; her loving son, Kaleb Zerkle, and his wife, Erin; and her grandchildren, Easton and Kaden. She is also survived by her sisters, Kim Copley and Penny Younce; her nieces, Kate Copley and Liz Whitaker, and their families; and her dear friend, Cyndy Burt. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Jean (Mattox) Zerkle.
A celebration of Peggee's life will be held at a later date with details to be announced. Family and friends will be invited to gather in her honor once arrangements have been finalized
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be in honor of Peggee to the charity of one's choice.
