Paul Arnold England, age 88 of West Carrollton, passed away peacefully at his home on October 8, 2020 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Paul was born on April 5, 1932 in Dayton, OH to the late John Walter England and Mary (Wark) England. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Elizabeth "Betty" Haller Kerr England, daughter Sheila Kerr, brother Bruce England, sister Charlene England, and son-in-law Terry Heyman.
Paul is survived by his loving wife Alice, his sister Kathleen Teague, daughter Nancy (Gene) Taylor, daughter Kathy Heyman, son Mike (Mel) Kerr, daughter Theresa (Jim) Oldfield, Alice's children, and many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Paul attended Roosevelt High School in Dayton, OH and graduated in 1950. He was a loyal, hard-working employee at the Sears & Roebuck Company from 1950 until 1985. He served his country as a dental hygienist in the United States Navy from 1952 – 1956. Paul was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, an outstanding Sir Knight who was dedicated to the service of his Church, his country, and his Order.
Paul married a young widow, Betty Haller Kerr in 1962, taking her 4 children under his wing without a second thought, and treated them as if they were his own. A couple years later he and Betty were blessed with a fifth child, completing their family. Paul was a man of strong faith. He was gentle and kind, and filled with so much goodness, thoughtfulness, compassion and love. He always saw the good in people, even if there was very little to see. After losing his oldest daughter and then Betty both to cancer within a few months of each other, he was a tower of strength for his family, even though his heart was broken too. Eventually Paul met Alice and they made a beautiful life together. His love for Alice and all of her children and grandchildren was beautiful to see. Paul was a friend to all, and will be missed dearly by the members of St. Henry Catholic Church, which he attended for over 50 years.
Friends may call from 6-8pm on Thursday, October 15th at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3940 Kettering Blvd, Kettering, OH. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 16th at 11am at St. Henry Church. A private burial service will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
