Pat Sebastian

Pat Sebastian passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at the age of 88.

Pat lived a life marked by perseverance, faith, and a deep enjoyment of the blessings around him. In childhood, he was involved in an accident that damaged his vision, yet he still did well in school. That determination remained with him throughout his life and shaped the way he met both challenges and opportunities.

When Pat came to Dayton, he attended Bible school, an experience that reflected the faith that would remain central to his life. He faithfully attended church, loved Jesus, and found great joy in gospel music. His spiritual life was a steady and meaningful part of who he was.

Pat built a dedicated career in medical transcription. He began working at St. Elizabeth Hospital as a medical transcriber and became a transcription manager until the hospital closed its doors. He then continued his work over the internet with transcription companies, remaining committed to his profession until his retirement in 2008. His work ethic and adaptability were evident across the years of his career.

He also carried a lifelong love of music. Pat learned to play piano by ear, a gift that spoke to both his ear for melody and his determination. In retirement, he enjoyed many of the things that brought him happiness, including travel and cruises, bus tours, weekend festivals, listening to his CD collection of music, and reading books on the computer with screen readers. He enjoyed retirement and made the most of those years with interests that kept him engaged and uplifted.

Pat also survived Covid, an illness that took a toll on his health and vision, yet his life continued to reflect endurance and quiet strength. He will be remembered for that resilience, for his faith, and for the way he continued forward with grace.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Garnet; younger brother, James (Margie) Sebastian of Youngstown, OH; favorite niece, Rose Schleef of Youngstown, OH; as well as many other nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2026 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Newcomer Centerville Chapel (820 Miamisburg-Centerville Rd., Dayton, OH 45459). Pat will be privately laid to rest in Miami Valley Memory Gardens.
