Ora A. Schaffer, Jr., age 77 of Riverside, passed away April 13, 2017. He was born October 1, 1939 in Sidney, Ohio to the late Ora A. Schaffer, Sr. and Pauline Schaffer. In addition to his parents, Ora was preceded in death by 2 brothers; and 1 sister.
Ora is survived by his wife, Shirley Schaffer; children: Phillip Wayne Schaffer, Sr. (Jackie), Steven Lynn Schaffer (Ann), Judy Price (Billy), JoeAnn Schaffer, Lora Keeton (Jimmy), Kim Tingelstad (Brett) and Ora Shane Schaffer, Sr. (Halie); sisters: Jean Ailles and Sandy Smuzok (Bill); brothers: Clark Schaffer and Roy Outcalt (Sandy); 24 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Ora was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served in Germany (with Elvis Presley), Korea and Vietnam. He was stationed at Ft. Campbell, Ft. Knox and Spain. Ora was a very dedicated veteran; he was a past commander of AmVets 464; life member of the V.F.W. Medway; and he organized and started the color guard for AmVets. Ora was a truck driver for 41 years.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 - 1:00 pm on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4104 Needmore Road, where the funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm. Burial and military honors will follow at Dayton National Cemetery.
