Norwood Hammond, Sr., born July 11, 1935 in Reddick, Florida to the late Elmo Hammond and Addie B. Monroe-Ashwood, passed away August 16, 2020.
He was reared in Reddick, FL the first 10 years by his grandmother, Alberta Monroe (affectionately known as Momma). He relocated to Sebring, FL and was then reared by his mother and stepfather, Johnny Blount. Norwood attended E.O. Douglas High School in Sebring, where he met and married Junita Massaline. To this union 3 children were born: Norwood, Jr., E. Bernard and Sheila; and adoptive daughter, I. Michelle.
Norwood then relocated to Peekskill, New York where he met and married Mildred A. Daniels. To this union 3 children were born: Sheryl R., Paula N. and Paulette D.; and adoptive son, Glenn F. Haywood.
Norwood was a very hard worker; General Motors, Hammond General Cleaning and his favorite job was being an over the road/independent truck driver. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, all sports and taking his grandchildren on the road in his 18-wheeler.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather; grandmother; both wives; 2 brothers, Albert Ashwood and Lorenzo Blount; sister, Marilyn Kincade; granddaughter, Alexis McDole; and adoptive son, Glenn Haywood.
Norwood leaves to mourn his passing: his children: Norwood Hammond, Jr. (Sheila), E. Bernard Hammond, Sheila Fregis; adoptive daughter, I. Michelle Orr (Tony) of Sebring, FL, Sheryl R. Morrison caregiver (Thomas), Paula N. Strickland caregiver (Robert Martin), Paulette D. Duerson of Dayton, Ohio, Christie Wright (Christopher), Nathan Martinez; daughter-in-law, Susan Haywood of Peekskill, NY; sister, Alberta Bowden of Jacksonville, FL; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; host of nieces, nephews, cousins and his special Shiloh Villa friends who called him the Fishing Man.
