SHARKEY, Norma Catherine (Daley), age 92 of Centerville, died peacefully on Monday. Born in Fitchburg, MA to the late Katherine and Denny Daley, Norma was a graduate of Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati. For 40 years, she owned the Sharkey Modeling Agency, a well known regional talent and drama agency that worked with generations of young people. She was recognized for her pioneer work as a woman business owner by the Dayton Daily News.
Norma was a loyal Notre Dame and Dayton Flyers fan, and an avid sports fan. Norma started her career as an actress and went on to direct high school plays including at Chaminade High School. Many of her students fondly remember her first rate productions and her encouragement to do well in life. She was a life-long learner who attended college courses into her 90s.
The Mother of 8 children, six sons followed by twin daughters, she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. As all will attest, she was the matriarch of this large family and dispensed her wise advice with a dash of Irish humor and a good story.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Tom Sharkey and their eldest son, Tim Sharkey. Norma is survived by her children, Mike (Debbie) Sharkey, Pat (Mary) Sharkey, Terry (Becky) Sharkey, Denny Sharkey, John Sharkey, Cathy Rains, and Molly Carnahan; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A visitation will be held at 9 am Saturday at St. Leonard Catholic Church, 8100 Clyo Road followed at 10 am by Mass of Christian Burial; burial at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Hospice of Dayton.
