Nila Faulkner, a vibrant soul known for her resilient spirit and her welcoming heart, passed away on March 13, 2026, in Dayton, Ohio. Born on March 11, 1935, in the small community of Keokee, Virginia, Nila’s life was a tapestry of dedication, love, and spirited independence.
Nila retired as a job setter from General Motors after 25 years of devoted service, a testament to her strong work ethic and steady resolve. She was well known not only for her professional commitment but also for her colorful personality—often described as ornery but fiercely endearing, never met a stranger and was ever ready with a sharp wit and a warm smile.
Deeply engaged in her community, Nila held a special place in the hearts of many at The Patterson, where she was an active and cherished member. It was here that she delighted in sharing light-hearted moments playing Uno with the “Cool Kids,” bringing laughter and camaraderie wherever she went.
An artist at heart, Nila’s paintings captured her unique perspective, while her love for the outdoors expressed itself in her passions for hunting and gardening. Her keen attention to every detail of nature was evident in her flourishing garden and in the delight she found feeding the ducks at her favorite spots. She had a sweet spot for ice cream and Werther’s candies, generously sharing these treats among her family and friends, a small gesture that spoke volumes about her giving nature.
Nila’s journey was also marked by the deep bonds she held with her loved ones. She is survived by her son, Larry Faulkner, and his wife Lisa; three grandchildren; niece, Tracie Koontz, and her husband Neal, as well as many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Wilburn and Louella Bailey, her husband Billy Faulkner, her siblings Gary Bailey, Cecil Bailey, Jane Miller, and Irene Upchurch, and her treasured dog Jenny, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
Nila's life was an ode to the joys of simple pleasures and the strength of familial bonds, leaving behind memories rich with laughter, love, and the enduring warmth of a woman who truly cared. Her spirit will forever remain a guiding light in the lives of those lucky enough to have known her.
Private services will be held. Contributions may be made in Nila's memory to Shriner's Hospital for Children. Nila's family would like to express their gratitude for all of the loving care given from everyone at The Patterson.
