Neal Dewayne Lawson

February 7, 1947 — June 28, 2025

Neal Dewayne Lawson, aged 78, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2025 surrounded by the love of his family and friends. Born on February 7, 1947, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Neal was the cherished son of the late Anna June (Dees) and Neal Marshall Lawson.

A proud member of the U.S. Army serving in the Vietnam War. Neal served his country courageously throughout 1966 and 1967, embodying the spirit of resilience and dedication. Neal was awarded a Bronze Star in May 1967 for his bravery during Operation Junction City. His career at the Montgomery County Department of Job and Family Services showcased his steadfast commitment to bettering the lives of others.

Neal was a devoted father to Amy (Rick) Kneisley, Emily (Brad) Zirkle, Molly Gwathney, Wesley Lawson, and Andrew (Jay) Caudill. He found immense joy in his grandchildren: Noah (Marianna) Kneisley, Austin ( Alyssa) Jackson, Zachary Cox, Nia Gwathney, John Kneisley, and Allie Grace Evans. Neal was also the beloved brother of Ron Lawson, Marv Lawson (Anthony Andalft), June Shinlever, and Julie (Jevon) Kennedy. As well as his devoted friends—Claudia Lawson, Janice May, and Debbie Hartman.

Neal’s passion for baseball specifically the Cincinnati Reds was infectious. He found endless delight in following the sport, from reminiscing about his younger years playing catch to cheering on his favorite team. Baseball was more than just a pastime—it was a lifelong love affair that brought people together and fueled conversations that lasted hours.

Another of Neal’s joys was the Kentucky Derby, an event that highlighted his affection for tradition and spectacle. Neal’s excitement for the race was electric—each year, he'd study the horses, place his bets, and enjoy the camaraderie of the Derby festivities with friends and family.

Neal touched the lives of many. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever, just as his passions continue to inspire those who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on July 29, 2025. Please check back for more details.
