Nancy Joan Parker

Nancy J. Parker, 77, died peacefully at home on Saturday, September 19th.

Born on December 15, 1948, in South Bend, Indiana. The daughter of Russell J. Brewer and Alyce K. (Collins) Brewer, who preceded her in death.

Nancy was the beloved wife of Richard A. Parker, married April 18th, 1975, just celebrated 51 years of marriage. She is survived by her husband, Richard A. Parker; her daughters, Kimberly (Jeff) Pavek of Sturgis, MI, and Deana (Joe) Northern of Dayton, OH; grandson Tanner Pavek of Michigan; brother Charles (Celia) Brewer of Austin, TX; niece Judi (John) LaViolette of Mishawaka, IN; and great-niece Emily LaViolette of Florida, and her beloved dog, friend, and guardian, Jack (her “Jumpin’ Jack Flash”).

She lived most of her life in the South Bend area. She was a proud member of the first graduating class of LaSalle High School (1967). After 29 years of service she retired from the South Bend Community School Corporation, she moved to Sturgis, Michigan. Where she was able to spend time with her grandson and enjoy lake life with her family. Recently, she moved to Xenia, Ohio, to be closer to her daughter Deana and her husband, Joe. Nancy was a wonderful mother and an even better friend. She never met a stranger and was always willing to chat with anyone. She was a longtime member and volunteer with America Turners (Turners of Michiana).

Nancy was always known for the many dishes she lovingly prepared to share with family and friends. She especially enjoyed finding new sweet treats to surprise everyone with something they had never tried. She also had a knack for finding the right card or gift for those around her. She will always be in our hearts as a fun, spunky, little lady.

She was preceded in death by her son, Sean Beatty; brother, Scott Brewer; sister-in-law, Janice Bendix; and brother-in-law, Edward Parker and his wife Shirely.

A quote that she admired: "Family isn't always blood. It's the people in your life who want you in theirs. The ones who accept you for who you are. The ones who would do anything to see you smile and who love you no matter what."There is another side of grief where the tears still flow — not as often. Where memories bring smiles, not just sadness. Where blessings are recognized, not just struggles. Where joy and peace are present, not just sorrow. Where you are remembered, not just mourned.
