Socrates, Mona Yvonne, of Dayton, born September 14th, 1928, passed away October 3rd, 2018, at age 90.
Mona had a long and interesting life. Born a Dutch citizen in Indonesia (formerly the Dutch East Indies), she and the family fled the country when the government nationalized all foreign-owned enterprises. Mona, her husband, Ed, and their three children under age 4, obtained refuge in their Mother Country, Holland. After a few years in Holland, Mona and Ed decided to immigrate to the United States. With the assistance of a Sponsor Family, they were able to settle in Dayton, Ohio, in November 1959.
After having four more children, and with English as her second language, Mona returned to school. She graduated from Sinclair Community College and embarked on a career as a Respiratory Therapist. She was employed by Children's Medical Center, where she worked until her retirement.
Outside of work, she took pride in being a devout member of Immaculate Conception parish, where she was active for many years with The Free Spirits.
Mona is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ludwig "Ed" Edmond. Mona is survived by her loving children, Michael, Astrid Socrates-Patterson (Dennis), Herbert, Stephen (Kim), Raymond (Dawn), James (Sharon), and Renee Woodruff. She also leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
