Miriam Kay Maue, a cherished figure in her community, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2026, in Miamisburg, Ohio. Born on June 23, 1932, in Dayton, Ohio, Miriam's life was marked by a steadfast commitment to her family and an unwavering dedication to civic engagement.

Miriam embodied the spirit of public service during her career, passionately involved in the Democratic Party and local politics. She dedicated several years to the Montgomery County Democratic Headquarters, where she played a vital role in securing poll workers for elections. Her devotion to civic responsibility earned her the esteemed recognition of Democrat of the Year in 1986, a testament to her tireless efforts to encourage voter participation within her community. Miriam was especially proud of being selected as an electoral college delegate for the state of Ohio in 1992. Beyond her political contributions, Miriam also found fulfillment in selling life insurance and managing a newspaper route, showcasing her diverse talents and strong work ethic.

A graduate of the Northridge High School Class of 1950, Miriam possessed a vibrant personality that was characterized by laughter and determination. Her love for her family was paramount; she was fiercely loyal and deeply supportive, particularly to her granddaughters, whom she adored. Celebrating holidays with loved ones brought her immense joy, as she created cherished memories that will endure long after her passing.

Miriam's nurturing spirit was shaped by her early experiences, including the loss of her mother at a young age. As a child, she lived with various family members while her father, Waldo, sought work out of state. After marrying her stepmother, Wilda, Miriam welcomed new siblings into her life, further enriching her family dynamic.

In addition to her public service, Miriam had a plethora of interests that she pursued with enthusiasm. She embraced genealogy and was captivated by photography and travel, often seeking the warmth of the Florida sunshine. A devotee of Dayton history, she held a deep admiration for the Wright Brothers. Her creative hobbies included crafting, and she proudly garnered several blue ribbons at the Montgomery County Fair over the years. Moreover, she was actively involved with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts when her children were young, and she contributed her time and energy to the Kettering Schools PTA.

Miriam attended David's United Church of Christ in Kettering and was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Miriam is survived by her daughter, Janice K. Maue of Kettering, OH; sister, Mary Alice Whitt of Kettering, OH; brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Janet Hieatt of Centerville, OH; step-daughter, Cassandra O'Neill of Kettering, OH; daughter-in-law, Paula Maue of Bellbrook, OH; and granddaughters Laura Maue of Columbus, OH and Emily Maue and husband, Andy Dickson, of Chicago, IL. She was affectionately known as "Aunt Mingy" to her loving niece, Carrie (Whitt) Barrett, and her two nephews, Steven Hieatt and Bobby Hieatt, who always brought smiles to her face. Miriam also delighted in her relationships with her Hieatt cousins, Jim McKown, Martha McDonough, and Marcia Thomas, as well as her loyal cousin, Barb Sink, from the Purucker/Scheer side of the family, who helped keep her mother’s legacy alive.

Miriam is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 47 years, Heber Maue; her loving son, Charles Scott Maue; her parents, Waldo and Margaret (Purucker) Hieatt; and her step-mother, Wilda Hieatt.

Miriam Kay Maue leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and dedication to her community and family. Her impact on those around her will be remembered fondly, and she will be dearly missed.
