Michael S. Thomas, born on July 29, 1952, in Columbus, Ohio, passed away on April 12, 2026, in West Alexandria. He was a man distinguished by his intelligence, wit, and deep commitment to both family and community. Michael’s legacy is marked by his long and dedicated career, his service to his country, and the warmth with which he engaged those around him.
A proud veteran, Michael honorably served in the United States Army, spending two years stationed in Germany. Following his military service, he committed 30 years to Montgomery County Water and Sanitation Services, contributing significantly to the well-being and infrastructure of his community before retiring.
Those who knew Michael fondly remember his sharp mind and quick wit, qualities that made him both a respected professional and a cherished companion. Beyond his professional and military accomplishments, Michael was passionate about his hobbies. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoying the peace and challenge of the outdoors. Michael’s culinary talents were renowned among family and friends, especially his world-class peanut butter fudge and blackberry wine cake, treats that will be remembered and missed. He was also a loyal fan of the Cincinnati Bengals and Reds, embracing the spirit of the teams with enthusiasm and fervor.
Michael’s family was the heart of his life. He is survived by his daughter, Tosha (Justin) Jordan, who carries forward his legacy. Cherishing his memory are his grandchildren: Jonathan (Mollee) Brown, Faith (John) Pierce, Hope (Jacob) Jordan, Grace Brown, and Cori Chasteen, as well as his great-grandchildren Kyllen, Gabriella, and Ellouise. Michael’s loving sisters, Carol Gould and Tina (Jon) Campbell, and brothers, Fred (Kimberly) Thomas and Gary Thomas, also survive him, alongside his beloved dogs, Irene and Charlie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom J. and Mary Irene (Hunnel) Thomas; his beloved wife of 47 years, Brenda Jean Thomas; his brother, Richard L. Thomas; and his sister, Barbara G. Chaney.
The family will welcome friends for visitation on April 28, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, located at 3940 Kettering Blvd, Kettering, Ohio 45439. This gathering will offer an opportunity to honor Michael’s remarkable life and celebrate the profound impact he had on all who knew him. Burial will follow at Dayton National Cemetery where he will be laid to rest with his wife, Brenda, and where U.S. Army Military Honors will be rendered.
Michael S. Thomas’s life was one of dedication, kindness, and joy. His memory will endure in the hearts of family and friends, and his contributions to his community and country will not be forgotten.
