Michael P. Lewis, fondly known as Mike to all who had the pleasure of knowing him, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2026, in Vandalia, Ohio. Born on October 23, 1949, in Dayton, Ohio, Mike was a man whose vibrant spirit and boundless energy touched the lives of many.
Mike’s journey began in Dayton, where he attended Our Lady of the Rosary grade school before graduating from Chaminade High School in 1967. He continued his education at Wright State University, laying the foundation for a life defined by hard work, dedication, and a love of learning. His career as an electrician was marked by his membership in the Electrician’s Union, Local 82, and he proudly retired from Delphi in Kettering, Ohio. However, it was clear to all who knew him that his true passions extended far beyond his professional accomplishments.
A truly fun-loving man, Mike was beloved by all for his wonderful nature and zest for life. He was very active outdoors, embracing adventures that fueled his spirit and brought joy to those around him. Whether racing hydroplanes across the Midwest, embracing the speed and roar of the engines that thrilled him, or camping at Dale Hollow Lake, Mike’s love for boating, the open water, and the great outdoors was unmistakable. Winters were spent down at Ft. Myers Beach, Florida, where he enjoyed relaxing beach days with his cherished wife, Carolyn.
Family was Mike’s greatest pride and accomplishment. He shared forty-one beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Carolyn Lewis. Together, they nurtured a loving family that stood as a testament to Mike’s generous heart and unwavering devotion. He is survived by his children-Christopher Lewis, Brian Lewis (Kelly), April Lay (Jason), Jason Smith (Kerry), Kristen Kovacs (A.J.), and Kari O’Hara (Pete)-each of whom carried forward his legacy of kindness and strength. His joy was further multiplied in his eight grandchildren-Olivia, Alex, Rylee, Kailey, Jordyn, Alex, John-David, and Poppy-and the bright light of his great-granddaughter, Amelia.
Mike was also a cherished brother to Andy Lewis (Sandie) and Susan Jones (Garry), and a beloved son to his step-mother, Carol Lewis. His passing leaves a void felt deeply by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends whose lives Mike enriched with his boundless enthusiasm and warmth.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Mary Lewis, who undoubtedly look down with pride on the man their son grew to be-a man full of life, laughter, and love. He was also preceded in death by his mother-in-law and fathers-in-law: Rita and Frank Wilson and Paul Fessler
Mike’s legacy is one of joyous living and deep, enduring love. His spirit will forever ripple through the waters he loved so dearly, echoing in the laughter of his family, and living on in the hearts of all who knew him. Though he has departed, the memories of his fun-loving nature, his passion for adventure, and his steadfast dedication to his family will remain a guiding light and a blessing to all who were fortunate enough to call him “Mike.”
