Michael Edward McGowan passed away peacefully on July 17, 2026, at the age of 64. Born on October 3, 1961, Mike's life was characterized by love for his family, devotion to his country, and an enduring generosity that touched the lives of many.
Mike proudly served in the US Navy, where he demonstrated unwavering dedication and integrity, and upon completion of his service, was honorably discharged. The discipline and honor he developed in the Navy continued to guide him through his life, shaping his contributions to his community and the people he loved.
Mike was a self-starter, he owned and operated McGowan Home Remodeling for over 30 years. He was known throught the community for his care, quality, and dedication.
One of Mike's greatest joys was spending time outdoors, tending to his garden, and embracing the tranquility of nature. He had a particular fondness for cheering on the Cleveland Browns and the Ohio State Buckeyes, celebrating every win and enduring every loss with loyalty and passion. His love for German Shepherds was well known, and those who visited him would often find his faithful companion by his side. He will also be remembered for his dedication to his community where he was a youth football coach for his son's team.
At home, Mike was rarely idle. He found satisfaction in making updates to his house and always had a project underway. Whether he was fixing something or creating a new space for his family, his hands and heart were never far from the pulse of his cherished home.
Above all, Mike will be remembered as a caring and generous man who loved his family deeply. Those who knew him were the recipients of his warmth and encouragement. His presence brought comfort, laughter, and strength to countless moments, both ordinary and extraordinary.
Mike is survived by his loving daughter, Jessica Day, and her husband, Kyle; his devoted son, Nick McGowan; and his beloved grandchildren, Samson and Elias. He is also survived by his sister, Rose (Rodney) Bagford; his brother, Patrick McGowan; and companion, Deanna Frazier. Michael was preceded in death by his father, John McGowan; his mother, Helen McGowan; his sister, Christine McGowan; and his brother, Thomas McGowan.
Family, friends, and all whose lives Mike touched are invited to pay their respects during a visitation on Thursday, July 30, 2026, from 12:00pm to 1:00pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Dayton, located at 4104 Needmore Rd, Dayton, OH 45424. A graveside service will immediately follow at 2:00pm at Dayton National Cemetery, West Third Street, Dayton, OH 45428.
The memory of Mike will remain in the hearts of those who love him, and his legacy of kindness and steadfastness will continue to inspire all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike's memory to Freedom Service Dogs.
