Michael K. Smith

Michael K. Smith, born January 12, 1947, in Dayton, passed away on October 25, 2026.

Michael graduated from Waynesville High School and went on to serve his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. For his bravery and service, he earned both the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He later built a long career at General Motors, retiring after 31 years of service.

He will be remembered for the things that brought him joy and the moments he shared with those he loved. Michael enjoyed working on his cars, especially his Chevy Novas. He liked bowling, hiking at Sugar Creek Reserve with his family, going to the horse races with his brothers, and taking beach vacations with his family. These simple pleasures helped shape a life centered on family, loyalty, and time well spent together.

Michael is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rose Anne Smith; his son, Todd Smith; his grandson, Scott Smith; his brother, Daniel Smith, and Barbara Smith; and his sister, Claudette Reedy. He was preceded in death by his son, Scott M. Smith; mother, Ada Smith; his father, Steve Smith; his brother, Glen Smith; and his sisters, Pauletta McCarren and Lisa Harter.

Visitation will be held on November 7, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, Kettering, 3940 Kettering Blvd, Kettering, OH 45439. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Dayton, OH with military honors.
