Melvin D. Gross, "Mel," born on December 2, 1940, in Germantown, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home on April 1, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. He was a man whose life was marked by devotion to family, community, and a passion for the outdoors.

Mel dedicated 29 years of his career to General Motors Inland Division, where his work ethic and commitment were evident to all who knew him. Beyond his professional achievements, he proudly served as a volunteer firefighter for Miami Township for a decade, exemplifying his willingness to give back and protect those around him.

A man of quick wit and humor, Mel was known for his sharp one-liners and his ability to connect with anyone he met. His easy-going nature, kindness, and genuine love for people made him a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. Music, boating, and his cherished dog Trixie brought joy to his days, and although he never learned to swim, he embraced life on the water with enthusiasm, often saying, "the faster the better!" Family trips spent house-boating at Lake Cumberland and camping at Norris Lake created memories he treasured deeply. He took great pride in teaching all of his children how to waterski, passing down valuable life lessons to them and his grandchildren along the way.

Mel is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Sue; his children Doug (Melissa) Gross and their children, Brandon and Alena, Jeff (Juliet) Gross and their children, Jack and Jena, and Melynn Muilenburg, and her children, Ella, Miranda, and Ava. Together, they carry forward the legacy of a man who was, above all, devoted to his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Geraldine Gross.

Mel will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and steadfast love—a remarkable man whose presence will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege to know him.

A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.
