Melvin Eugene Duwel, age 76 of Dayton, passed away May 29, 2018. He was born July 18, 1941 in Dayton to the late Marcellus and Clara Duwel. In addition to his parents, Mel was preceded in death by his brother, Cecil Bevan.
Mel is survived by his wife, Roberta (Hamm) Duwel; three daughters: Theresa Jo Stidham (Christopher), Lees Summit, MO, Mary Jo Duwel, Tipp City, OH and Kandy Jo Duwel, Clayton, OH; grandchildren: Heather Duwel-Mehl (Kevin), Vandalia, OH, Samantha Ultican (Brett), Blue Springs, MO, Jenna Stidham, Lees Summit, MO, Amanda Wion (Ron), West Milton, OH, Sarah Owens (David), Vandalia, OH, Brooke Sparks, Vandalia, OH, Jesse Lovejoy (Kylie), Vandalia, OH, Thomas Sparks, III, Tipp City, OH, Charlie and Christina Hassink, Vandalia, OH; many great-grandchildren; sisters: Naomi Carpenter, Springfield, OH, Nancy Benedict, Englewood, OH and Marcella Brewster, Englewood, OH; sister-in-law, Suzie Bevan, Springfield, OH; and many nieces and nephews.
Mel was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired from General Motors after more than 35 years of service. Mel was an avid motorcycle rider; amazing husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Visitation will be held from 11:30 am - 12:30 pm on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road, where the funeral service will begin at 12:30 pm. Burial will follow at Poplar Hill Cemetery, Vandalia. To send a special message to the family, please click on Share Memories.
