Max Eugene Mohr, 88, of Vandalia, Ohio passed away of natural causes on September 3, 2025.
Max was born on November 17, 1936 to the late Richard and Helen (Transou) Mohr in Shelbyville, IN. He grew up helping his father on the farm, and was no stranger to hard work. After graduating from Waldron High School, Max married Cheryl Hampton and joined the Air Force. He was proud to serve his country, and especially enjoyed his time stationed in Okinawa. He was later stationed in California, where he and Cheryl would adopt their first child. The growing family then moved to Fairborn, Ohio, where they would add two more children. After leaving the Air Force, Max received his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University and continued to work at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base as a civilian. His later working years were spent at Avis, where he formed many friendships. Upon retirement, Max delighted in his role as a grandfather. He was a longtime supporter of Wright State University athletics and the Dayton area arts, and took care to ensure that his children and grandchildren would also appreciate live theatre.
Max is predeceased by Cheryl, and by beloved younger brothers Philip and David.
He is survived by his children: Tari Mohr of Florida, Jeannette (William) Carl of Westerville, OH, and Kevin (Melanie) Mohr of Houston, TX. He is also survived by numerous family members, related by blood and by choice, who will miss him dearly. They include Janet Mohr, Debbie Mohr-Mauch, and Jessica Sells, along with cherished grandchildren Sarah and Lauren Carl, Harrison and Elliott Mohr, Klara Severt, and Brindyn and Bryson Sells.
Military Funeral Honors will take place at Dayton National Cemetery at 2:00 in the afternoon on November 14, 2025.
