Matthew Jason Sparks, known fondly to many as Jason, went home to be with the Lord on May 31, 2026, in Columbus, Ohio. Born on March 30, 1975, in Nashville, Tennessee, Jason's life was marked by warmth, laughter, and an unwavering devotion to family.
A graduate of Walter E. Stebbins High School’s Class of 1993, Jason carried with him the values and lessons learned during those formative years throughout his life. He was a man whose dry sense of humor often brought lightness even during the toughest of times. His great sense of humor in moments of adversity was a testament to his strength and resilient spirit. But beyond his wit, Jason was deeply caring and loving, qualities that endeared him to all who knew him.
Jason’s dedication to his family was profound. He was especially devoted to his nieces—Harper Sparks, Dylan Sparks, and Ruby Sparks—finding joy in the simple yet precious moments, like gently rocking them to sleep when they were babies, displaying a tenderness and patience that left an indelible mark on their lives. His presence was a comforting constant, and his love for his family was reciprocated in full measure.
Among his many interests, Jason was an avid fan of the Washington Redskins, a passion that sparked lively conversations and camaraderie. Another unique facet of his personality was his love for tree frogs, creatures he not only cherished but collected, reflecting his curious and gentle nature toward the world around him. He was also an avid music lover, some of his favorites were: The Beatles, Aerosmith, AC/DC and Weird Al.
Jason is lovingly remembered by his mother, Ardalyn “Ardy” Sparks; his brothers Michael “Joshua” Sparks and his wife Jessica, and Marcus “Justin” Sparks; along with his nieces Harper, Dylan, and Ruby. The family also treasures the memories shared with a host of other relatives and friends who were touched by Jason’s warmth and kindness. He is predeceased by his father, Michael C Sparks, whose memory lives on in the heart of the family.
To honor Jason’s life, a visitation will be held on Friday, June 12, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Dayton, 4104 Needmore Rd, Dayton, OH 45424, where the funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 1:00 PM.
