Matthew L. Lala, a devoted son, brother, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on December 10, 2025, at the age of 55. Born on January 13, 1970, in Mesa, Arizona, Matthew led a life filled with kindness, humor, and a fervent love for family and friends.
A proud graduate of Tecumseh High School, Matthew was known for his dependable character and dedication, evident in his work as a delivery driver. He found fulfillment in his role at Jet's Pizza on Far Hills Avenue, where his colleagues appreciated his work ethic and good nature.
From a young age, Matthew's personality shone brightly; he was always a great sport, embodying enthusiasm regardless of the outcome of any game he played. His sister, Elizabeth, lovingly nicknamed him "Big Ol' Goofy," as he possessed a truly infectious sense of humor and an easygoing nature that brought joy to those around him.
Matthew had a diverse array of interests; he cherished the serene pastime of fishing and held a deep affection for animals. His passion for sports, particularly for the Rams and the Reds, was well-known among his family and friends. Above all, he treasured his family deeply, making every moment spent with them meaningful.
Matthew is survived by his beloved sister, Elizabeth Rowe, as well as his sister, Chele Robson. He was a cherished uncle to his nieces and nephews: LeAnna (Jaben) Cargman, Katherine Rowe, Chelsea Kuruzovich, and Jordan Kuruzovich. Matthew's life was further enriched by the relationship he shared with his aunt, Shirley (Larry) Barlow, and their grandchildren, Emma Barlow and Olivia Barlow. Additionally, he embraced the joy of being a great uncle to Zaish, Evelyn, Asher, Jocelynn, Arwen, Marilee, and Atlas. He is also remembered fondly by many cousins on both sides of the family and his dear friend, Jeaniece Mayo.
Matthew was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Mary Lala, his maternal grandmother, Ruby Davis, his brother-in-law, Robert Rowe, and his beloved cousin, Larry Barlow.
In this time of mourning, the memories and light that Matthew brought into the lives of his family and friends will forever be cherished. His spirit, marked by laughter, warmth, and unconditional love, will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who knew him.
Following the holidays, a Celebration of Life will be privately held at the convenience of the family.
