Matthew S. Fricke, known affectionately as Matt, passed away unexpectedly due to natural causes on July 5, 2025, at the age of 41. Born on August 24, 1983, in Kettering, Ohio, Matt’s journey in life began in a community where he would later create lasting memories with family and friends.
A graduate of Centerville High School, Class of 2002, Matt went on to further his education at Wright State University, becoming an estimator at Ohio Valley Excavating, a company whose culture and values he appreciated and often spoke highly of.
Matt was a passionate and generous individual gifted with a caustic but silly sense of humor that endeared him to his family and friends. Matt and Cortney cared for each other deeply. Genevieve was his pride and joy. He enjoyed coaching Evie’s baseball team. Traveling with his family was always an exciting experience, especially their trips to Mexico.
Matt considered himself the ultimate pizza connoisseur and his assessments were often spot on. He enjoyed quoting The Simpsons and other classic comedies with family and friends. Matt enjoyed a spirited debate about politics as well as being passionate about the well-being of others. A true music fanatic, he enjoyed many genres and learning new music. He celebrated the ups and handled the downs of being a fan of the Reds and Bengals. His sarcastic remarks were a signature part of his personality, reflecting both his careful thinking and his desire to make those around him smile.
Matt leaves behind a loving family, including his wife, Cortney, and daughter, Genevieve; his mother, Bert (Judd Moore) Fricke; siblings Sarah (Ryan) Vikan and Bridget (Mark Cargill) Fricke; father-in-law Henry Banks Sr. and mother-in-law Jeannie Banks; as well as cherished nieces and nephews, Brycen Vikan, Willow Vikan, Penelope Cargill, and Landon Cargill. He is also remembered by his aunt, Carol Cassetta, and close friends Chris Hart and Dave Knoll, among many others.
Matt is preceded in death by his father, Stephen Fricke; maternal grandparents Leonard and Jennie Flynn; paternal grandparents Robert and Dorothy Fricke; aunts Charlene Schraml and Bannie Crompton; and great aunt Mary Snyder.
Matthew S. Fricke will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His spirit, laughter, and love for his family will forever remain in their hearts.
A private gathering will be held by family.
