Matt Waugh, a true son of Dayton, Ohio, born September 13, 1999, passed away on June 14, 2026, leaving behind a legacy marked by unwavering love for family, a distinct personality that commanded attention, and a lifetime filled with passions that truly defined the man he was.
Matt was a proud graduate of Stebbins High School, Class of 2017. From his youth, it was clear he was a force to be reckoned with—a blend of care, strength, and spirited individuality. To know Matt was to know someone who was outspoken and unafraid to bring his own quirky, unmistakable flavor to every room he entered. He was, without a doubt, the biggest bullshitter you’d meet, but always with a grin and a heart full of good intentions. His way of connecting, teasing, and holding court was one of his greatest gifts.
His dedication extended beyond personal ties into his community and country. An active member of ROTC in his younger days and a proud member of American Legion 619.
Baseball was one of Matt’s passions—a game he played with vigorous enthusiasm and the kind of grit that separates the players from the true competitors. When he wasn’t on the diamond, you could find him at Airway Billiards, chalking his cue and calling shots on the pool table, mastering a game that matched his sharp mind and steady hand. An avid collector of keys, coins, and ink pens, Matt found joy in the little things, treasures that some might overlook but that to him held stories and significance worth cherishing. His pride also shined through his love for working on old cars—an accomplishment he wore like a badge, showing off both grit and skill.
Family was Matt’s steadfast cornerstone. As someone very close with those he loved, he was a pillar to his immediate and extended family, offering support, laughter, and that trademark stubborn loyalty. He is survived by his mother, Brandie Waugh (Michael); father, Christopher Peck; brother Dylan Waugh (Morgann); Bonus brother, James Kuntz; his maternal grandfather Dave Todd whom he held a very special bond with; paternal grandparents Mavourneen and James Peck; and a broad circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, especially Trisha Moran and many other family and friends who all carry his memory forward. Their lives were made richer by his presence, his stories, and his unmistakable spirit.
Matt’s journey was also marked by the memories of those who went before him. He is remembered and honored by the legacies of his maternal grandmother, Krista Waugh; maternal great-grandmother, Patricia Waugh; and uncle, Bill Waugh.
Born, raised, and passing in Dayton, Matt’s life is a testament to how deeply rooted a man can be in place, purpose, and people. In remembering Matt Waugh, it’s impossible not to recall a man who lived fully, cared deeply, and left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him. His voice, his laughter, and that unique fire will forever echo in the hearts of his family and friends. He was, in every sense, a man’s man—a brother, son, competitor, and unforgettable character who touched the world around him with a spirit uniquely his own.
