Mary Willene Jackson, age 97, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 24, 2025 around 11:00 pm. Willene was born on September 13, 1928 in Cookeville, TN. Daughter of the late Johnny and Mary (Beasley) Stamps. She moved to Dayton when she was only 13 years old by herself to live with her sister.
She married Glenn Jackson on June 3, 1949 and he passed away on August 27, 1995.
Willene retired from J.C. Penney Department Store at the Salem Mall where she was supervisor over the Lingerie Department and took much pride in for so many years.
Willene attended North Dayton Baptist Church for many years. She was very active and loved to see people come to know her Lord and Savior. She was secretary of the Children's Department for many years, loved to do Arts and Crafts, helped in the church kitchen, sang in the senior choir, went on senior trips, and enjoyed her job as church greeter on Sunday mornings. She loved her Lord and was very dedicated to his work.
Willene was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson, Danny Jackson; son, Greg Jackson; sisters: Ila Whiteaker, Leatha Ramsey and Treva Swallows; brothers: Houston (Deloy) Stamps, Clarence Stamps and James (JD) Stamps; and a very dear and close friend, Carl Martin.
Willene is survived by a daughter, Angela (Mike) Jackson; grandsons: Mike and Mathew Jackson; granddaughter, Lauren (Jackson) Moad; brother, Robert (Bob) Stamps; many nieces and nephews; a very special cousin, Donald (Dottie) Whitteaker; and many friends who loved her so much.
Mary was a dedicated Christian lady who wanted everyone to have Jesus in their heart and lives and live it as well.
Thank you to Bethany Village staff and friends for your love and care that was given to Mary Willene. She loved going to the activities and church every Wednesday. We appreciate all of you for helping Mary have a better final year of life. Thank you to Donald and Dottie for the many and long conversations you shared with Willene each day. You always brightened her day.
Thank you Willene for allowing and trusting us to help you through a very difficult time. I always said you were our church mother but you were way more than that to us. We are going to miss you but so glad you are home now as you wanted for so long. We and so many of your friends and family are going to miss the time we sat with you, talking to you, doing your nails, helping you eat and most of all, reading the Bible to you. You truly will be missed and until we see you again - We love you!
Visitation will be held from 12:30-1:30 pm on Friday, October 31, 2025 at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton, where the funeral service will begin at 1:30 pm. Burial will follow at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery.
