April 20, 1931 — April 30, 2024

In loving memory of Mary Jane Mitchell Tyson, who passed away at 93 on April 30, 2024, at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, OH. She was a remarkable woman who, through her resilience, left a legacy of faith and achievement that defied all odds. Mary Jane, born on April 20, 1931, in Jochin, WV, to Junius Mitchell and Irene Freeman, began her journey in humble beginnings. She moved to Toledo, OH, at a young age and pursued her education at Libbey High School and Nursing Academy. Her dedication to learning and hard work paved the way for her future successes. She later worked at Toledo Mental Health Center and the Toledo Board of Education, retiring in 1996 after an impressive 52 years of service. Following her retirement, she and her husband relocated to Huber Heights.

Mary Jane's life was anchored in her unwavering faith in God. Her commitment to her spiritual journey was evident in her tireless service to the House of God, where she found solace and purpose. She was a dedicated member of Soul City House of God, serving as the Pastor's Aide Committee president. Later, she continued her spiritual journey at the Church of the Living God (Pillar Ground of Truth), where she served until her passing, leaving a profound impact on the community. Mary Jane was an enterprising soul who epitomized the spirit of entrepreneurship. With grit and perseverance, she carved her path in the business world, co-owning Hamer's Carryout with her husband. Through her ventures, she not only secured a prosperous future for herself but also uplifted others along the way, leaving a lasting impact on her community.

Mary Jane was committed to education and the future. She ensured her four children received the best opportunities, sacrificing tirelessly to provide them with a private school education. She understood the value of hard-earned money and taught her children the importance of diligence, responsibility, and financial stewardship. Mary Jane was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Henry Tyson Sr, son Edward Tyson, and 11 siblings, including six brothers and five sisters. She is survived by her children, Henry Tyson Jr (Victoria) of Columbus, GA, Jose Tyson, Lisa Tyson, and Steve (Nicole) Tyson of Dayton, OH. Two grandchildren, Olivia Mary Tyson of Huber Heights, OH, and Ryan Howe of Dayton, OH. One great-grandchild, Rosemary Howe, Grand Rapids, MI. A special friend, Ruth Cook of Troy, OH, and a host of nieces, nephews, and many relatives.

In her journey through life, Mary Jane embodied the essence of triumph against adversity, leaving an incredible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Though she may have departed this earthly realm, her legacy of faith, perseverance, and love will continue to inspire generations. Rest in peace, dear Mother Tyson.
