Mary Vi Snyder, maiden: Chakeres, passed away on October 7, 2026, in Huber Heights, two days before her 87th birthday. She was born on October 9, 1939, in Springfield, Ohio, and lived a life marked by love, generosity, and deep devotion to others.

Mary was loving, caring, and generous in ways that left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Beloved in the community, she became an adoptive mother to many people throughout the years, offering warmth, guidance, and steady kindness. Her greatest pride was her family, and the love she poured into them formed the heart of her life.

She devoted her working years to education, serving as a teacher and educator in many school districts throughout the area. Through that work, she touched countless lives with patience, knowledge, and care. In addition to her years in the classroom, she also worked as an editor with a local magazine, bringing thoughtfulness and skill to another meaningful chapter of her professional life. She earned her Bachelor's in Education from St. Mary's of Notre Dame, a foundation for the lifelong service she gave to students and her community.

Outside of her work, Mary found enjoyment in the quiet pleasures of crossword puzzles and reading. Mary's faith was a cornerstone of her life. These simple and steady interests reflected the thoughtful spirit she carried through her life.

She is survived by her son, James "Jim" (Rebecca) Snyder; daughter, Katrina Taylor; brother, Michael (Josie) Chakeres; sister, Sandi Chakeres; grandchildren, Robin (Tabitha), Samantha (Joe), Nate (Whitney), Miranda (Dakota), Laurel (Tyler), Stephanie, and Alistair (Danny); great-grandchildren, Oliver, Kenley, Kamrie, Nolan, Kade, Ezra May, and a Baby on the way; daughter-in-law, Heather Snyder; and aunt, Pauline Chakeres. Mary’s love extended far beyond blood, and her memory will continue to live in the many lives she embraced and nurtured over the years. She is also survived by "sons and daughters" Amy (Robert), Collette (Eric), Matt, Pat (Mary), Jeff (Marie), Chuck, Chris (Jenny), Craig, Barry, Deb, Dan, Doug, and Brian. Mary will also be remembered by her close friends, Joe, Barbara, Teresa, Nadine, Little Joe, Jan, and Pastor Art.; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Snyder; son, Karl Snyder; father, James Chakeres; mother, Helen Chakeres; brother, Harry Chakeres; and sister, Connie Chakeres.

Mary will be remembered for the tenderness she gave so freely, for the wisdom she shared, and for the abiding care that made people feel at home in her presence. Her life was a gift to her family, her friends, her students, and her community, and her memory will be held with deep affection and gratitude.

The family will honor and celebrate Mary's life at a later date.
