Mary Alean Scott

Mary Alean Scott, age 72, was born on November 29, 1953, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Eddie and Imogene Street. On July 31, 2026, she peacefully entered the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Mary was the youngest of four children and was preceded in death by her beloved siblings, Jean Street, Faye Jones, and Hugh and Jewell Street.

She is survived by her high school sweetheart and devoted husband of 53 years, Pastor Matthew Scott, with whom she faithfully served the Lord in ministry for many years. Together they built a life rooted in faith, love, and service to others.

Mary was a loving and devoted mother to her three cherished children. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Matthew Scott Jr. Her family was the joy of her life, and she treasured her role as "Nana" to her grandchildren: Jordan (Adelle) Scott, Jason Baldwin II, Judah Baldwin, Kenneth Taylor, and Miyah Scott. In her final years, she was especially blessed by the arrival of her great-grandchild, Aspen Scott, who brought her immeasurable joy.

She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends, and countless lives touched by her kindness and unwavering love.

Mary truly never met a stranger. Her greatest gift was her remarkable ability to love others unconditionally. Her radiant smile could light up any room, and her genuine joy in serving others left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered. She planted seeds of love, faith, and encouragement wherever she went.

Affectionately known as "Sister Sunshine," she became known for her early morning phone calls to church members, family, and friends—simply to offer encouragement, pray with them, and spread a little sunshine.

Mary believed in putting others before herself and never hesitated to lend a helping hand. She was an exceptional wife, a nurturing mother, a proud grandmother, a talented seamstress, an exquisite cook, and a devoted homemaker. She generously shared her wisdom, gifts, and knowledge, empowering and uplifting the women around her with grace, compassion, and love.

Mary's legacy is one of steadfast faith, selfless service, unconditional love, and joyful generosity. Though she will be deeply missed, her light continues to shine through the countless lives she touched. Her family rejoices in the promise that she is now at home with her Savior, hearing the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant."

Public visitation will be held at Maranatha Worship Centre (4501 Wolf Rd, Dayton, OH 45416) on Saturday August 8, 2026 at 10:00 am with Homecoming Celebration to follow at 11:00 am.  She will be laid to rest next to her son at Shiloh Park Cemetery. 

Sister Sunshine

She never asked to stand before the crowd, Nor sought the praise of many voices loud. She simply walked where God had led her feet, Leaving kindness in each soul she'd meet.

She wore no crown of gold or precious stone, Yet Heaven marked her as one of its own. With gentle words and arms held open wide, She made the lonely feel dignified.

They called her Sister Sunshine, and rightly so, For everywhere she went, God's light would glow. She brightened weary hearts on cloudy days, Reflecting Christ through simple, loving ways.

A morning call, a whispered prayer, A listening heart that was always there. She carried burdens others could not see, Yet gave away her strength so selflessly.

She planted seeds of hope with every smile, And walked beside the hurting every mile. She taught that love is patient, kind, and true—Not merely spoken, but lived in all we do.

She found her joy in serving someone else, Never counting riches for herself. Her greatest wealth was found in giving more, Opening wide compassion's door.

A faithful wife, a mother strong and wise, With Heaven's love reflected in her eyes. A Nana whose embrace could calm each fear, Whose laughter made God's goodness feel so near.

Though tears now fall because she's gone from sight, We know she's clothed in everlasting light. The seeds she scattered bloom from shore to shore, Bearing fruit forevermore.

And somewhere beyond these earthly skies, Where sorrow ends and glory never dies, She hears her Savior softly say, "Well done, My child. You've brightened many a day."

So when the morning sun begins to rise, Or hope appears in tear-filled eyes, We'll think of her and smile anew—

For Sister Sunshine still shines through.
