Mary K. Russell, 82, of Dayton, Ohio passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and loved ones on June 5th, 2020.
Mary was born February 11, 1938 in Pennington Gap, VA. Mary, or Cory as she was known to a select few, was a beloved member of our family. She cherished her time with all of us. When she wasn't cooped up inside for the winter she enjoyed being outside in the garden and taking care of her beautiful flowers. Mary was great in the kitchen. From making the best potato salad, to her famous hot dog chili, to that meatloaf that none of us can replicate. And for those of you who never got the chance to taste her fried pies, you're missing out.
She was a great friend, a wonderful mother, a caring and loving sister, the world's greatest grandmother, or mamaw as Joseph called her. And to one special little girl, the absolute best great-grandmother a girl could ever ask for. Mary was such a kind and gentle soul that will be terribly missed by all that was lucky enough to have known her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Russell, father Wheeler Fleenor, mother Chole Fleenor, sister Betty Woliver, brother Jack Fleenor, and brother James Fleenor.
She is survived by daughter Tammy Russell, daughter Kathy Gibson (Leonard Campbell); grandson Joseph Gibson; great-granddaughter, Gwendolynn Gibson; brother Jim Fleenor (Vicky Fleenor), brother Ronnie Fleenor (Elizabeth Fleenor); sister Peggy Carroll, sister Mildred Roberts, and countless nieces, nephews and friends.
A special thanks to Tim and Autumn and everyone at Miami Valley Community Church for their continued love, support and prayer in this time.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 9, 2020 from 3:00 pm until time of service at 4:00 pm at Newcomer Kettering Chapel, 3940 Kettering Blvd.
Graveside service and burial will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at Lee Memorial Gardens 1986 Hickory Cir Rd., Pennington Gap, VA 24277.
