Mary Lee Pregon passed away peacefully at home on June 17, 2025, at the age of 94. Born in Germantown, Ohio, on December 29, 1930, Mary led a life characterized by kindness, love, and a quiet yet profound strength.
Mary graduated from Germantown High School in 1948, where she distinguished herself by achieving an impeccable attendance record, honored for no tardies or absences throughout her entire eight years of schooling. Her dedication and commitment were evident early in her life, traits that she maintained throughout her future endeavors.
In her professional life, Mary began her career at Rikes in her youth. Subsequently, as those close to her grew older, she took on the role of a dedicated homemaker while raising her family. Once her children were in school, she joined the workforce, becoming employed at Kettering City Schools, Standard Register, and participating in retail for several years. Through each chapter of her life, she exemplified hard work and devotion.
Mary was a longtime member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Germantown. Known for her love of sewing and reading, Mary also found joy in doing word searches and watching Wheel of Fortune, activities that provided her with comfort and relaxation. She had a deep affection for her dogs, who brought much happiness to her life. She also never turned down an opportunity for a Marion's Pizza.
Mary is survived by her loving children, Linda (Larry) Smith, Dave (Sandie Adams) Pregon, and Steven Pregon. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Brandon Smith, Christian (Christina) Smith, and Mary (Joe) Gabriel, as well as her great-grandchildren, Elliott Smith, Evelyn Smith, Brielle Smith, and Yonan Gabriel. Along with her immediate family, she leaves behind many other relatives and friends who will miss her gentle spirit.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Vera Barkalow; her brother, Carl Barkalow; and her cherished daughter, Diane Pregon. She will be remembered for her quiet demeanor, generosity, and the unconditional love she bestowed upon her family and community. Mary's profound influence on those around her will undoubtedly endure in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
