Mary Lou Frantz

The world lost a truly special soul on August 6, 2026, when Mary Lou Frantz passed away, surrounded by loved ones. Born on November 25, 1939, Mary Lou lived nearly eighty-seven years marked by deep devotion to family, an abiding thirst for knowledge, quiet acts of kindness, and a love for life’s simple joys.

Mary Lou spent her childhood in Dayton, Ohio, where her journey through learning and friendship began. A proud member of Fairview High School’s Class of 1958, she went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Linguistics from Miami University—an achievement that reflected her enduring passion for words, meaning, and communication. These traits would shine throughout her life, whether in thoughtful conversations, cheerful games, or the way she nurtured both family and friendships.

It was as a homemaker that Mary Lou found her true vocation and greatest happiness. Her days were brightened not just by the necessities of daily life, but by laughter at the kitchen table, quiet hours spent reading, the thrill of a good game of bingo, and the peace she found while tending her garden. Each flower she cultivated spoke to the care with which she lived her life, always tending, nurturing, and encouraging those she loved.

Mary Lou’s heart found its deepest fulfillment in her family. She adored being a mother to Stephanie (Roger), Todd (Jenn), Chris (Heidi) , and Seth—her steadfast pillars and the light of her later years. Her bond with her grandchildren—Amanda (Kevin), Joshua (Emma), Ryan (Megan), Mason, Mylie, Sofia, and Benjamin—was a wellspring of joy and pride. Each moment spent with them, whether playing games or simply sharing stories, built the memories that will continue to warm those she leaves behind. She is also survived by her beloved dog, Maggie. 

She carried the loss of her beloved husband, Victor, with grace, drawing comfort in the treasured memories of trips they took together and the life they built. She also held close the memories of her parents, Douglas and Marjorie Lawson, as well as her brothers, Douglas Lawson Jr. and Charles Lawson, and sisters-in-law, Betty and Joanne Lawson, all of whom enriched her life immeasurably.

A longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church, Mary Lou found fellowship and spiritual comfort in her church and home group. Her compassion extended too to animals; she rescued multiple cats over the years, offering them a loving home. Her pets were cherished companions, and her dedication to their well-being spoke to her gentle, nurturing spirit.

Above all, Mary Lou loved her family fiercely. Gathered at holidays, for simple dinners, or just to spend a few hours together, she found her truest happiness in their presence. She leaves behind a legacy of love, selflessness, and devotion that will continue to guide and inspire her children and grandchildren.

The family welcomes friends and loved ones to join in remembering Mary Lou’s remarkable life. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Dayton, located at 4104 Needmore Rd, Dayton, OH 45424. A Memorial service will follow at 3:00 PM at the same location.

Mary Lou Frantz’s life was a testament to quiet strength, enduring love, and generosity of spirit. Though she is no longer physically present, her warmth, lessons, and laughter will echo through the lives she touched for generations to come.
