Mary Jo Harris, 79, of Dayton, Ohio, passed away on February 12, 2026.

Mary Jo was born July 26th 1947 in Lebanon Kentucky to the late James Etherington and Margaret Elizabeth Eversole.

Over the years, she worked in bartending, at Southern Belle with her late husband Tom. Her warm smile and friendly spirit made lasting impressions. Above all else, she was a wonderful and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was a devoted animal lover and someone who never met a stranger.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Etherington; her mother, Margaret Eversole and Dorothy Etherington; her beloved husband, Tom Harris; her sons, Steve and Ty Smith; her daughter Rhonda Hughes; grandson, Damon Smith; her sisters, Paula, Belinda and Ruthanne her brothers, James and William; and her former husbands, Ronald Antrican and Sonny Dawes.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving; sisters, Barb, Robin, Kim, and Sheila; her grandchildren, Shannon, Jordan, and Anthony; and her great-grandchildren, Hayden, Brayden, Nani, and Bentley. Beloved former husband Orville Smith. Along with many extended family members and dear friends.

Mary Jo’s love for her family and animals was the center of her life.

She will be remembered for her kindness, her strength, and the deep love she shared with all who knew her. She will be greatly missed and forever loved. A true free spirit, Mary Jo lived life on her own terms. She had a deep love for movies, the timeless music of Hank Williams, and the unmistakable style and shine of Cadillacs. She embraced life fully, with laughter, resilience, and a heart that remained open through every season. Her greatest joy came from time spent with those she loved , who will remember her always.

The family will hold a celebration of life at a later date.
