Mary Katherine Fannon

Mary Katherine Fannon, lovingly known as Kathy, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 4, 2026, in Dayton, Ohio. She was born on July 29, 1936, in Wilder, Tennessee, and lived a life marked by strength, devotion, humor, and deep love for those closest to her.

Kathy was a woman whose presence was unmistakable. She was stubborn in the way that often comes from conviction, feisty in spirit, strong and independent, yet always kind, loving, and deeply family oriented. Her humor brightened the lives of those around her, and her warmth made home feel fuller wherever she was.

In her working life, Kathy served as a committee woman for Inland Manufacturing until her retirement. Her main focus was helping people with substance abuse, a reflection of her caring heart and her desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. She brought compassion and determination to that work, offering support where it was needed most.

Outside of work, Kathy found joy in the simple and lasting pleasures of everyday life. She loved gardening, cooking, shopping, and spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed playing cards, farkle, Yahtzee, dominos, and working word searches. She also delighted in buying flowers and having Pam plant them, a small tradition that carried her love of beauty and family together. Of all the things she treasured, her proudest accomplishment was her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Fannon; her granddaughter, Mindy Fannon Smith; her grandson Kyle Westendorf and his partner Paula Bewick; her great-grandchildren, Shayla Smith and Cameron Smith; and her beloved fur baby, Izzy Fannon. The love Kathy poured into her family will remain with them always, in shared memories, familiar laughter, and the many everyday moments she taught them to cherish.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Silas; her daughter, Paula Fannon; and her parents, Shirley and Cora Hood as well as 5 sisters and 3 brothers. Their memories remained part of her life and story, and now she is reunited with those who went before her.

Visitation will be held on September 15, 2026, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, Beavercreek, 3380 Dayton Xenia Rd, Beavercreek, Ohio 45432. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Woodland Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio. 

Kathy’s life was rooted in love, resilience, laughter, and family. She will be remembered for her spirited nature, her generous heart, and the enduring way she cared for the people she loved.
