Listen to Obituary

Mary Frances Chaney, a beloved matriarch and nurturing spirit, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2026, in Dayton, Ohio, at the age of 92. Born on August 9, 1933, in Irvine, Kentucky, Mary was a woman whose strength and compassion touched the lives of everyone around her.

She was a strong-willed and devoted individual, known for her caring nature and distinctive stubbornness. Mary accepted everyone with open arms, embodying a warmth that drew people near. Her family was her life, and she cherished every moment spent with her loved ones. Following the profound loss of her husband, Ralph Chaney, in 1984, Mary remained devoted to her family, never remarrying but pouring her heart and soul into raising her children and caring for her grandchildren.

Mary was both a mother and a homeroom mother, involved in her children's activities, always striving to be there for them. Her nurturing spirit extended not only to her own children but also enveloped all those fortunate enough to know her. She treasured her role as a grandmother, taking joy in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary took great pride in her family, including her children: Linville Chaney (Virginia), Eddie Chaney, and Lisa Chaney Hall; daughter-in-law, Vanita Chaney; grandchildren: Dawn Getsfred (Tony), Sarah Mustaine (Eric), Ashley Hall, Danielle Kelly (Hal), and Gunner Chaney; and great-grandchildren, Colton, Addilyn, Eric Jr., Henry, Callum, Noah, Georgie, and Elizabeth.

Mary possessed a true zest for life, relishing moments spent listening to music and immersing herself in her favorite soap operas. Her resilient spirit and affectionate heart will forever remain in the memories of the many relatives and friends who were fortunate enough to share in her life.

She is rejoined in eternal rest with her parents, Tracy and Carrie Tipton; her loving husband, Ralph; their son, Ralph Wayne Chaney; and many brothers and sisters who will greet her with open arms.
