Mary Margaret Barrow’s journey began on a spring day in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, on April 21, 1950. The warmth, wit, and joy she brought into the world blossomed across decades and continents, leaving an indelible imprint on all who were fortunate enough to know her. On August 21, 2026, in Dayton, Ohio, Mary’s remarkable journey came to a gentle close, surrounded by the echoes of laughter, kindness, and storytelling that defined her days.

Mary’s early years in Ontario shaped her keen mind and bright spirit, traits nourished and guided by her beloved parents, Frank and Clara Castle. In her family’s home, she learned not only the value of curiosity but the deep rewards of nurturing those around her—a lesson that would become the heart of her life.

In 1992, Mary’s dedication and tenacity led her to earn a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Wright State University, an achievement she pursued with both pride and humility. Her love for problem-solving—especially math—found its perfect expression in her career as a computer programmer with DAAS, from which she eventually retired, leaving behind innovations and friendships that will continue to ripple through the organization she helped to shape.

Mary’s professional achievements were matched only by her vibrant passions and the love she poured into her relationships. She had an insatiable love of travel, often spending sun-drenched winters in Tucson alongside her dear friend Marianne Cook. Whether exploring new places, delighting in a freshly crocheted creation, or crafting a meal that would bring her family together around the table, Mary moved through life savoring each moment. Her hands, skillful and gentle, wove warmth into every scarf she made and every cabbage roll she rolled.

Of all her roles, perhaps the most cherished was that of a teacher and a storyteller. Mary delighted in tutoring her granddaughters, Jasmine and Jillian Evans, instilling a deep appreciation for the beauty and logic of mathematics. Her stories—shared across countless evenings watching favorite shows with family—bound together generations, a golden thread of memory and affection.

Mary’s love for her family radiated through all she did. She shared forty-one devoted years with her husband, David Barrow, whom she married on June 28, 1975. Together, their partnership was a testament to perseverance, love, and shared dreams until David's passing in 2016. She is deeply missed by her daughter Jennette Barrow; granddaughters Jasmine and Jillian Evans; her loving sister Fran Knott; her brother Richard Castle; and her faithful friend Marianne Cook. In crossing the threshold of this life, Mary is reunited with her beloved David and cherished parents, Frank and Clara.

Mary’s legacy is one of connection—knitting together the lives of family and friends, inspiring curiosity, laughter, and generosity, filled with her sharp whit and sarcasm, wherever she went. Her gift for making every person feel valued, her embrace of change and adventure, and the stories she left behind will comfort and sustain those who mourn her absence now.

As we gather to remember Mary, her spirit will echo in the stories retold, the recipes revived in family kitchens, the warmth of crocheted blankets wrapped around loved ones. Though she has departed this world, Mary Margaret Barrow’s remarkable life, shining heart, boundless love, and strong will will forever remain with us.
