It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Mark Evan Sturgell, who died peacefully at his home on March 22, 2026, surrounded by his loving wife, Martha. He was born on March 11, 1956, in Dayton, Ohio.
Mark lived a life defined by kindness, dedication, and a strong work ethic. He was a graduate of Vandalia Butler High School, attended Sinclair Community College, and earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Dayton. He built a distinguished career supporting the United States Air Force, specializing in avionics and human-aircraft interface systems. Mark served in several key engineering roles and ultimately retired as a Branch Chief with the Air Force Research Laboratory.
Professionally, Mark was known for his positivity, innovation, and commitment to excellence, as well as his ability to foster collaboration and camaraderie among colleagues. Outside of his career, Mark was deeply involved in his community, including Toastmasters, Moose 73, and American Legion Post 598.
He had a lifelong passion for music, performing as a keyboardist and guitarist for over 35 years, including with church praise teams. He was also an avid reader and dedicated HAM radio operator who enjoyed connecting with others.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Ursula Gerda and Delmond Arvid Sturgell, and his sister, Beverly Truax. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Martha, and all who knew him.
A visitation will be held on April 13, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Fairhaven Church, followed by a funeral service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the same location.
Mark's life was one of service, generosity, and connection. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all whose lives he touched.
