Margaret Ellen Mervis, age 99 of Centerville, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2025 at Hospice of Butler and Warren Counties. She was born February 11, 1926 in Cleveland, Ohio the daughter of the late Robert and Elizabeth Young.
Margaret was working at Chase Brass at the time she met her sweetheart, Charles, at the Euclid Little Theatre, in Cleveland, where they both were involved with plays and shows. After they married and having their first child, she went on to be a great wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Margaret was always engaged in singing from a very young age and grew up with a very musical family which encouraged her to sing in school and church choirs. She was very involved in the choir at Southminster Presbyterian Church in Centerville, where she also became a deacon. She joined The Cameo Chorale and sang with them all over the Dayton area for various events.
Margaret loved to travel and had several opportunities to experience many places in and out of the country, with Banff, Canada being one of her favorites. She so loved dogs, gardening, bowling (which she was recognized several times in the Dayton paper), sewing, spending time with family, and she was an expert at crossword puzzles. One of her great joys was writing to her longtime friend from 7th grade through graduation at Lakeside Schools in Cleveland and then through the years.
She was always so proud of and took great joy in her grandchildren. She loved taking them on special outings and on new adventures. She attended many activities that they were involved in and supported and encouraged them through it all. She truly adored each one, as well as her great grandchildren.
Margret had a tender heart, quick wit, and spontaneous humor that her family and friends will remember, and she will be greatly missed.
Margaret is survived by her husband of 68 years, Charles; daughter, Linda (Guy) Harshman; 4 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara.
