Margaret June Maloon, a devoted and loving family member, friend and professional, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026. Born in 1925 at her parent’s home in Nelsonville, Ohio, to Charles Harrison Hoce and Catherine Charlotte Hoce (Higgins), Margaret's life was marked by unwavering dedication both to her career and to those she loved.
A graduate of Nelsonville High School, Margaret built a career as an executive secretary at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, where she served with distinction for many years. Her career, which began within days after graduation in the midst of World War II and continued for over thirty years, was a source of great personal pride. She was an unwavering patriot.
Margaret was a woman of many strengths and, occasionally, opposing characteristics. Known for her loving kind nature, she was easy to laugh, could have a strong-willed tongue, and feisty by nature. Her personality embodied both genuine and heartfelt characteristics. Those fortunate enough to know her will recall how grateful, kind, and outspoken she could be while still maintaining her warmth and approachable personality.
Her commitment extended beyond her professional life. She married the love of her life, Robert K. “Bob” Maloon in September of 1957 after meeting him at a dance. It was a whirl-wind courtship. Due to chronic illness stemming from his WWII service in the U.S. Army, Bob became disabled early in their marriage. A proponent of making lemonade out of the lemons life presented her, Margaret continued to work as a Wright-Pat civilian employee after marriage; rather unusual for a woman in the homemaker oriented 1950’s/ 60’s. Among her most cherished personal experiences was the time she devoted as a caretaker to her mother-in-law Nova Maloon, reflecting her compassionate and nurturing disposition. Later in their marriage, as Bob’s illness worsened, she retired and insisted that he be cared for at home until his death in 2006.
Margaret was a true animal lover, particularly devoted to the many dogs she cared for throughout the years. She spent much of her time volunteering at her church, Hope Methodist, engaging in many outreach efforts, demonstrating a sense of community and service. She loved the outdoors, tending her garden; feeding the small animals and birds that flocked to her feeders. Her mornings began with hot chocolate, and she was a great enthusiast of ice cream, especially strawberry and peach flavors — simple joys that colored her daily life.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Hoce Sr. and Katherine C. Hoce.; her beloved husband, Bob Maloon; and her siblings, Ann Hoce Provost, Charles “Chick” Hoce, Raymond “Red” Hoce, and H.W.”Bill” Hoce. She leaves behind many family members and friends who will remember her with gratitude and affection. Heartfelt thanks to Jeff and Fran Razor, Erin Maloon Rowley, Ione Kotis and Anita Krull for their devoted and loving care.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3940 Kettering Blvd. A service will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial to follow at David's Cemetery, 4600 Mad River Rd in Dayton.
