Margaret Mary Clifton

Age 97, born March 1, 1927 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Frank and Mabel (Crone) Zimmer. She is also preceded in death by her husband of 60 years Charles, siblings Joseph (Mary) Zimmer, Clyde (Margaret) Zimmer, Odessa (Walter) Overy, Edward Zimmer, Grace (Walter) Cureton, Anna (Thomas) Meyers, Agnes (Jake) Jacobson, Lillian (Frank) Toth, Josephine (Wayne) Wilmoth, Paul Zimmer and Francis Zimmer.

Margaret attended St. Charles Elementary and Libbey High School while living in Toledo. Margaret had various jobs throughout her life working at the telephone company in Toledo. After moving to Dayton in 1960, with her family, Margaret briefly worked as a manager of the Candy Counter for Elder Beerman working at their downtown, Eastown and Van Buren locations. She also worked part time as a sales associate at Rike's Kettering in their China Department and Trim The Tree shop.

Margaret joined Church of the Ascension parish in 1960 and attended weekday and Sunday services until she was 95 years old. She also worked in Ascension's religious book store and was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, Ascension's Funeral Luncheon Ministry and often volunteered to bake cakes and work in booths for the parish festival. She religiously prayed the rosary. She also volunteered her time at Carroll High school as one of their lunch ladies. Margaret was also a member of TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly). Her hobbies included arts and crafts, sewing, reading, puzzle making, word searches, bowling, cake decorating, cookie baking and tending to a large vegetable garden as well as canning and freezing those vegetables. She also attended many evening classes through Kettering Adult School. Margaret was an avid gardener and her flower beds were neighborhood famous. She loved nurturing the growth of God's flora. She also was a sports buff and an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds baseball, UD Flyer basketball and Ohio State football.

Margaret leaves to cherish her memory, children Jeff (Barb) Clifton, Sharon (Jimmy) Donnelly, Diane (David) Chong; grandchildren, Nicole and Michelle Chong, Brian (Beth) Reed, Jeff Reed; great-grandchildren, Andrea, Rachel, Renee and Brody Reed; sister, Mildred (Joseph) Walasinski as well as numerous nieces and nephews, too many to list.

Family will receive friends from 10:30 - 11:30 at the Church of the Ascension, 2025 Woodman Drive, Kettering, OH. Mass of Christian Burial will be held immediately following the visitation at 11:30. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Dayton, OH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ascension Church St. Vincent de Paul Society.
