Celebration of Life for Marcus M. Baker
Firstborn Marcus Marquette Baker, 58, entered this world on July 16, 1966 to Lamon L. and Jimmie H. Baker in Troy, Alabama. Marcus was a high-energy, sweet soul who liked simple things in life and was well-known for his love of Michael Jackson, especially “Thriller” with “Billie Jean” and “Beat It”. McDonald's was his favorite restaurant - his favorite meal was a hamburger and fries or sausage muffin and hash brown, both with Diet Coke or coffee. Anyone who knew Marcus knows he loved his Friday Night Wrestling with Hulk Hogan was his guy. He also enjoyed his cards and casino slots! Marcus had Down Syndrome but was always up! He lived a pretty rounded life.
Marcus accepted Christ as his personal savior at an early age. He understood he was in God’s hands from the beginning and despite any disability, he enjoyed life to the fullest. Over the years Marcus was a member of Philippi Missionary Baptist Church under Rev Cleophus Woods, Sr and Mt Gilead Missionary Baptist Church under Rev James Stringer. Marcus had a long association with the Montgomery County Board of Developmental Disabilities Service (MCBDDS).
He attended Northview, Westview and Southview Schools. Through various programs Marcus was placed in meaningful employment with Sinclair Community College, car washes and hotels. His last job was with McGregor Surmount in Brookville, OH but that position terminated in March 2020 due to CoViD. Most recently Marcus enjoyed his several times a week trip to the Easley Group Life Training Skills Center in Trotwood.
Marcus loved to travel. He has visited Trump Tower in Atlantic City, New Jersey as well as Imperial Palace in Las Vegas. He toured Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and always loved to visit Troy, Alabama for decades. In recent months Marcus had been in and out of Miami Valley Hospital before he spent the last two weeks at the Laurels of Huber Heights rehabilitation facility, where he transitioned Saturday, September 7, 2024, 5:05 AM EST due to physical complications of Dementia/Alzheimer's.
Marcus was preceded in death by his two beloved Grandmothers - Lily Mae Baker and Mattie Shirley Williams and maternal grandfather Ellison Williams, Sr. Marcus is survived by father, Lamon Baker, mother Jimmie H. Baker and siblings Tracy, Steve and Shakeeta Baker. He leaves a lasting legacy of being a kind and respectful young man who was beloved by a host of loving family members and friends including aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, neighbors, and coworkers. Marcus loved his family and his face lit up whenever they were around.
