Malcolm "Don" Pressley, a man whose life was a testament to duty and integrity, was born March 11, 1957, and departed on August 24, 2025. He leaves a legacy defined by his unwavering commitment to his country, family, and friends.
A devoted husband to his beloved wife, Wanita Pressley, whether they were traveling around the country in their RV, visiting friends and family, or just enjoying a Netflix night, they created a lifetime of memories. As a loving stepfather, Don took immense pride in his sons: Chester Lee Roberts Jr., Benjamin Scott Roberts Sr. (Cassie), and Douglas Christopher McManis (Brianne). For each of his son's, he guided them with his example, behavior, and leadership.
Grandpa/Papaw Don, is a superhero to his grandchildren: Benjamin Scott Roberts Jr. (Emily), Nicholas Austin Roberts, Damian Angelo Roberts, Trae Rashad Clark (Kassidy), and Chayton Coyote Wile; and his great-grandchildren: Roman James Roberts, Ezra Rashad Clark, Lucas Cade Roberts, Clay Levi Clark, and Bennett Kelly Clark.
Along with his surrogate father, Roy “Whiskers” Horton, Don will also be deeply missed by his nieces, nephews, family, life-long friends and fellow soldiers in arms.
As a proud graduate of The University of North Alabama, Don went on to serve as an officer of the United States Army. He served active duty, national guard, and as a civilian. A Bronze Star recipient and an Afghanistan War veteran, Don was one of the few good men who stood on the walls to protect the fragile freedom and security we enjoy. From Alabama to Alaska to Afghanistan, Don gave his life to our country so that we may have an opportunity to prosper.
Beyond his military service, Don was known for his kind and protective nature. He was not only a brother—a title he upheld with pride, especially in the memory of his late sisters Mary Jo Mathews and Carol Ann Presley Trapp—but also a best friend to many. His personality radiated warmth; he was a man of few words, yet when he spoke, his voice commanded attention. Those who had the privilege of knowing Don understood the depth of his care and the wisdom in his counsel.
In addition to his sisters, Don was preceded in death by his parents, Malcolm Casper Presley and Josephine (Morris) Presley, as well as by Maxine "Max" Horton.
The legacy of Malcolm "Don" Pressley will endure through the stories shared by his loved ones and the lives he touched. A true leader and devoted family man, he set an exemplary standard of what it means to live with dignity, honor, love, and integrity. He will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to know him.
