Linda Susanne Thornburg (neé Orrill), age 82 of Dayton, Ohio and a long-time resident of Florida, passed peacefully into the presence of her savior Jesus Christ on October 16, 2026, in Columbus, Ohio. Linda, known by her beloved niece and nephew as Aunt Ninny, was born on August 14, 1944, in Dayton, Ohio to Anna and Robert Orrill Jr.
A graduate of the 1962 class of Northmont High School, she was adored by friends and nicknamed “the little one”. After raising two daughters, she finally realized her dream of calling Florida her home. Aunt Ninny loved the sun and the beach. She met many lifelong friends in Spring Hill, Holiday, Hudson, New Port Richey and Tarpon Springs. Her passion was to care for others, and she would help her neighbors and friends with everything from painting a house to planting a garden or cooking and hosting holiday meals. She loved dancing and riding on the back of a Harley-Davidson. In 1992 she rode for “Jerry’s Kids” to help raise money for children with muscular dystrophy.
She loved her family deeply. She also had great love for her Angels in fur. Over the years she cherished her cats, Katie, Bridgy, and Oliver and her little pups Diggie, Apache, Bella and Phoebe, all who will be waiting for her at Heaven’s gates. Her last fur baby, Poppi, kissed her good-bye just before she made her journey home, which brought her the sweetest smile, and now, he lives happily with her niece Hollie and her husband John. It never mattered who she met, whether person or animal, if you needed her, she was there for you, to pour out love and laughter. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Special thanks to all the nurses, aides and Cap City Hospice at Westerwood who loved and cared for Miss Linda so well for the last part of her journey.
Linda Susanne Thornburg was preceded in death by her parents Anna and Robert Orrill Jr., her blessed sister Bobbie Hofele (Orrill) and her dear younger brother Robert Michael Orrill.
She is survived by eldest brother Jim (Linda) Orrill, nephews Jeff and Jason Orrill, daughters Christa (Eric) Johnson of Maine, and Michelle (Joe) Cox of Dayton and grandchildren Owen and Jacob Cox and Isabella and Olivia Johnson. Loving and missing Aunt Ninny each day, her beautiful memory will be kept alive by her beloved Nephew Jesse (Brittiany) Hofele of Tipp City and treasured Niece Hollie (John) Brofford of Columbus and her great-nieces and great-nephews Carter and Calla Robinette, Amber Brofford, and Joshua and Adalynn Hofele.
Private services will be held for Linda's family. She will be laid to rest in Arlington Cemetery, Brookville, Ohio. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the care of Newcomer Funeral Home, North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton, Ohio.
