Linda Sue Murphy, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2026, in Dayton, Ohio. Born on April 13, 1948, in Dayton, Linda’s life was marked by her kindness, talent, and the love she bestowed upon those around her.
Linda was cherished by her family, whom she considered her proudest accomplishment and she so devotedly nurtured. She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Ellish, and son-in-law, Brian Ellish; her son, Steve Murphy, and daughter-in-law, Robin Murphy. The legacy of her love continues in her grandchildren: Ashley Kapnas (John Kapnas), Travis McCool (Jessica McCool), Brianna Douglass Austin Douglass), Troy Murphy, Brandon Murphy, Avery Murphy, and Cale Murphy. Linda’s joy was multiplied further by her great-grandchildren: Jackson, Abigail, Brigham, Henry, and Kinley. She is also survived by her loving sister, Lillian Beatrice Pemberton; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Preceding Linda in death are her devoted husband, Talmage Murphy, her father James Agee, her mother Margaret Agee, her brothers, Clyde, Cletus, Cordell, Russell, and Winford; and sisters, Berniece, Juanita, and Carolyn.
Throughout her life, Linda was known for her musical talents—she was a skilled singer and guitar player whose melodies lifted the spirits of those around her. She delighted in the simple pleasures of shopping, working on word searches, and especially in the adventure of traveling. Her enthusiasm for exploring new places was perhaps most evident in her fondness for going on cruises and traveling with family and friends, creating memories that will be cherished for generations.
Linda found comfort and joy among her church family at New Carlisle First Baptist Church, where her faith and fellowship enriched the lives of all she knew. Just as she was enriched by these many connections, so too did she enrich the lives of those within her circle, offering support, laughter, and love.
