Linda A. Manning, age 71 of Huber Heights, Ohio, passed away Sunday, September 23, 2018. She was born August 16, 1947 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Robert and Jean Loyd.
Linda was a graduate of Centerville H.S., class of '65 and attended Miami University for 3 1/2 years. She was an unapologetic Liberal and started her political activity in 1964 as a volunteer for the election of Rodney Love to Congress. She was active in numerous political campaigns from then until 2008. Linda was a member of both the Huber Heights and the Montgomery County Democratic Clubs; she was elected as a delegate to the 2008 National Democratic Convention for President Barack Obama, after being diagnosed with breast cancer in June of that year.
Linda was an avid reader who enjoyed traditional jazz, cross stitching, camping, and current events. Her greatest joy was being a mother and a grandmother.
Linda will be missed by her loving husband of 48 years, Jim; children, Mike (Emily) Manning, Pat Manning and Kate Manning; grandchildren, Henry and Alice; siblings, Robert Loyd, Jr., Carol Loyd, Susan (Loyd) Watson; many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday, September 27, 2018 from 5-8 p.m. at Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd., Datyon, OH. Visitation will be held again Friday at the funeral home at 12:30 p.m. The funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home at 1 p.m. to Calvary Cemetery, 1625 Calvary Ave., Dayton for the graveside service at 1:30 p.m.
A Celebration of Linda's life will be held Friday, September 28, 2018, at 5 p.m. at the VFW Post #3283, 5074 Nebraska Ave., Huber Heights, and all family and friends are invited. Heavy hors d'oeuvres will be served with live music by the Classic Jazz Stompers.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Linda's memory to the Stephanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research, Fund #313899, 1480 W. Lane Ave., Columbus, OH 13221.
