Dwane grew up in the nurturing environment of the Ohio Soldiers' and Sailors' Orphans Home in Xenia, Ohio, and later attended Wilbur Wright High School. Known for his unique blend of humor, kindness, and a touch of stubbornness, he was a man of quiet strength and genuine character. Those close to him fondly remember his funny nature, which endeared him to many.
Professionally, Dwane was a proud entrepreneur who owned and operated Grimes Painting alongside his good friend James Dean Hamilton. This venture was a testament to his hard work and commitment, reflecting both his business acumen and his collaborative spirit.
Beyond his career, Dwane was a man of diverse interests. He had a profound love for his yard and garden, finding peace and satisfaction in tending to them. His curiosity extended to the cosmos, often studying outer space with great enthusiasm. A passionate sports fan, he was devoted to following The Ohio State Buckeyes football team and the Cincinnati Bengals. Fishing was another cherished pastime, offering him moments of tranquility and connection with nature.

Together, they raised: Mark (Chrissy) Grimes, Damon Grimes, Dwane Hild Grimes, Sean Grimes, and Brittany Grimes-Reynolds. His legacy continues through his beloved grandchildren Caitlin, Destiny, MyKaela, Logan, Christopher, Cayden, Carter, Macy, and Ella, as well as multiple great-grandchildren.
